As I stand on the cusp of turning 50, I can't help but reflect on the journey that has brought me here.
With just one month to go, the anticipation and introspection are in full swing! Here are some of the thoughts and feelings pressing on my mind as I approach this milestone...
...Growing up in Chicago has shaped me in profound ways...
The city's relentless energy, the camaraderie among its diverse residents, and the lessons learned from enduring its harsh winters - to learning a tireless work ethic to be able to compete at the highest levels of athletics that Chicago brings - with some of the best competition in the world.
That has all contributed to the person I've become.
As I approach 50, I can't help but marvel at the impact my hometown has had on my life.
My travels across the United States have left indelible marks on my soul. From the flat lands of Mid-America, the completely different culture and persona of Texas and now to the sun-kissed shores of California, I've been privileged to explore the richness and diversity of this country.
These journeys have not only broadened my geographical horizons but have also enriched my understanding of the multifaceted tapestry that IS America.
Don’t even get me started on traveling internationally...
...Traveling the world has been an education that transcends the confines of classrooms and textbooks.
It's a journey of both intellectual growth and profound perspective shifts. What does that even mean?
Exploring diverse countries and cultures has broadened my horizons, deepening my understanding of the world's richest tapestry.
Traveling has gifted me a global perspective. It's a perspective that acknowledges our interconnectedness as a human race and recognizes our shared responsibility for the planet and its future.
It's a perspective that goes beyond borders and politics, emphasizing our common goals and aspirations.
In essence, travel has been a lifelong education that transcends books and classrooms. It's a lesson in humility, curiosity, and the capacity of the human spirit to adapt and thrive in diverse circumstances.
As I approach my 50th birthday, I carry these invaluable lessons with me, knowing that they have shaped me into a more informed, open-minded, and compassionate individual.
In a world often preoccupied with fashion trends, I've chosen to embrace my personal style.
I think style and fashion are very different. I believe style (mine in-particular) is a reflection of my individuality, marked by classic pieces and an affinity for sneakers. Yes! SNEAKERS!
It's a statement of my refusal to conform, and a testament to the belief that style is a celebration of one's uniqueness. Did I say, sneakers?!
I’ve always thought if you look good, you feel good.
As I count the days to my 50th birthday, I've set my sights on the future.
I aim to maintain my health and vitality, pursue my real estate ambitions, and make my 50th year a period of personal growth.
It's a year I envision as transformative...both creatively...and financially...
...As well as a time to nurture my relationships and well-being.
In these final weeks before my 50th birthday, I'm filled with gratitude for the life I've lived and the adventures that lie ahead.
More importantly, all the different people and personalities that have touched me, formed me, helped me and fueled me to be who I am today.
This journey from 49 to 50 isn't just about marking time; it's about embracing the richness of experience and the promise of a bright future.
It's a celebration of a life well-lived and a reminder that the best is yet to come.
With each passing day, the anticipation grows, and I stand ready to embrace the adventures of my fifties with a heart full of hope and a spirit ready for whatever lies ahead.
Now, get after it!
